POW/MIA Recognition Day

Sep 19 2014 07:55 AM | FPSN Editors in Community Hall
The United States’ National POW/MIA Recognition Day is observed across the nation on the third Friday of September each year. Many Americans take the time to remember those who were prisoners of war (POW) and those who are missing in action (MIA), as well as their families.

As of September 19, 2014*, more than 83,000 American military personnel are still unaccounted-for from WWII to the Gulf War. These numbers include approximately 73,000 heroes still missing from World War II, 7,800 from the Korean War, 1,640 from the Vietnam War, 126 from the Cold War and 2 from the Gulf War.

The POW/MIA Flag was created by the National League of POW/MIA Families the POW/MIA Flag is officially recognized by the Congress. Do not forget their sacrifice and everything they have given you. On this day, this Friday now more then ever, Remember Everyone Deployed.

* This American Flag pictured here was flown over the skies in Iraq on the First Day of Operation New Dawn, September 1st, 2010. It is one of my most cherished mementos. Every day when I look upon it, I am reminded of the personal sacrifices friends and family have made, not only for me, but for everyone.  Never take your freedom for granted. Because someones blood was spilled to give you that freedom and it should be respected, never expected.

Do you remember the Four Freedoms? Norman Rockwell did a series of paintings, you'll perhaps remember them when you look at them.
